Reel Great Guys Birthday Slider Card

Reel Great Guy slider card

Today’s project is a slider card.  The main image is from Art Impressions Reel Great Guys stamp set and was stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored with Copic Markers.

I masked the boat and fishermen and stamped the Stampscapes Pine Row 150E in the background several times with Memento Northern Pines ink.  I used Copic Markers G24 and G29 to fill in the areas that didn’t stamp.

The die-cuts around the image panel were cut from black card stock with the C.C. Designs Leafy Branch dies that I have had forever and use all the time.  (Sorry – I think these dies are discontinued now.)

The die to make the slider opening is from Lawn Fawn’s Slide On Over set.  (I saved the piece that was cut out to put behind the opening so the background in that area would match the rest of the image when the fish is slid up and down.)

The main image panel was matted on black card stock then adhered to pieces of foam to make room for the slider mechanism.  Under this is a piece of watercolor paper that was colored with Faded Jeans, Peacock Feathers, Salty Ocean, and Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxide inks.  (I applied the inks to a craft sheet, spritzed with water, then pressed and twisted the watercolor paper through the inks until covered.)

Copic Markers used on main image:

Fisherman on left . . . Vest: FYG1, FYG2, YG13, YG06.  Hat: R14, R17, R27.  Shirt: B21, B23, B26. Fishing Pole: E33, E07. Hair: E19.

Fisherman on right . . . Vest: B63, B66, B69. Hat: YG23, G24. Shirt: B60, B63, B24. Hair: E19, W7, Colorless Blender 0.  Fishing Pole: E07.  Bobber: R14, R27.

Skin – both fisherman: E000, E00, E02, R02, R23, BV00.

Boat: E33, E35, E39.  Water: B91, B93, B95, B97.  Sky: B000, B00, B01.  Tree reflections in water: G28. A white gel pen was also used to add highlights to the water.

The fish is from the Simon Says Stamp Father’s Day Finds stamp set and was colored with FYG01, FYG02, YG01, YG23, Y02, B06, BG49, and BG78.  I added dots of BG18 to the face and tail fin and G29 to the body to create interest/texture.

Here is a view of the inside of the card:

Both of the sentiments are from the Art Impressions Reel Great Guys stamp set and were cut out with a couple of Spellbinders dies.  The background piece was again colored with Faded Jeans, Peacock Feathers, Salty Ocean, and Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxide inks, but this time I applied them directly to the watercolor paper with a foam applicator and then lightly spritzed with water.  The bubbles were added with Echo Park’s Bubbles Stencil and Peacock Feathers Distress Oxide ink.  Then I used another Echo Park stencil and Faded Jeans Distress Oxide to add some fish to the background.  The following Memory Box dies were cut from black card stock: 99747 Family of Fish, 99745 Ocean Critters, and the “seaweed” and ocean plants at the bottom were actually created with Memory Box die 99461 Wildflower Landscape!

And let’s not forget the back of the card:

I cut out Memory Box 99461 Wildflower Landscapes and 99463 Deep Sea Corner from black card stock and adhered them to patterned paper.  The “Birthday Fishes” sentiment is from the AI Reel Great Guys set and the fishing pole and fishing line with hook and bobber are from the Simon Says Stamp Father’s Day Finds.

Well, that’s it for today – hope you liked the project and thanks for visiting!

This card was made using some of Art Impressions great watercolor stamps.  I colored the image using Marvy LePlume markers.  Art Impressions has a great video here (Project 1), including marker colors.  There is also a great tutorial on their watercolor DVD.

Once the stamping and coloring was completed, I cut out the focal image with a Spellbinders Circle die and mounted it on a Spellbinders Floral Doily Motif (S5-041) die-cut from black cardstock.  The Happy Birthday Stand Up Helper from Elizabeth Craft Designs and pattern paper from Gina K. Designs “Parisian Garden” were used as well.

Best Wishes Triple-Flip Keepsake Card

Recently, a friend from work had found a new job and my other co-workers asked me to make a card that we could present to her on her last day.  I wanted it to be something special that she could keep as a remembrance of us, and I remembered an article I had read in the September 2012 Scrap & Stamp Arts magazine by Catherine Allan called “Spellbound With Spellbinders Dies & Inky Goodness.”  In this article, Cathy Allan gives step by step instructions for making a triple-flip card.

I used Spellbinders Grand Labels Eleven to create the top two layers.  The stamped images on the front are from the Sheena Douglass stamp set “Silhouette Grasses” and the large butterfly die cuts were created with the Les Papillions die from Spellbinders.  Other Spellbinders dies I used include Lattice Rectangles, Classic Circles Small, and Classic Scalloped Large.  The tiny butterflies you see on the various pages were made with the Memory Box die “Butterfly Delights.”  I used Memento Bahama Blue, Memento Danube Blue, and the Ranger Distressed Inks Picked Raspberry, Broken China, and Tumbled Glass to color the backgrounds on the top two layers.

I used a dot patterned paper and a Heartfelt Creations Burst of Splendor patterned paper for the backgrounds on the other pages.  One of the Sizzix Architectural Accent dies was used to create the corner pieces on the third page and the stamp for the focal image is from Hero Arts.  Sizzix dies were also used to create the tag and sign–the tag and tag pocket were cut from Heartfelt Creations Posy Patch patterned papers.
